PRI Adds the AMPT to our Services

04.16.2012
AMPTPRI is proud to announce the addition of an Asphalt Mixture Performance Tester (AMPT) to our collection of state of the art equipment for pavement testing.

We are excited about the added capabilities that the AMPT brings to PRI including the addition of AASHTO TP 79 “Standard Method of Test for Determining the Dynamic Modulus and Flow Number for Hot Mix Asphalt: (HMA) Using the Asphalt Mixture Performance Tester (AMPT)” to our list of services.

The AMPT allows PRI to add the three asphalt tests of NCHRP Projects 9-19 and 9-29 to our services. These three tests include; Dynamic Modulus, Flow Number and Flow Time.

Dynamic Modulus

Dynamic Modulus E* is a performance related property, for mixture evaluation and characterizing the stiffness of HMA. Dynamic Modulus evaluates the potential for rutting and fatigue cracking of HMA and can be used for forensic analysis of pavement failure. It can also be used to create master curves for structural design, improve mixture design and assess modified binders and local materials.

Flow Number

Flow number is related to the resistance of HMA to permanent deformation and consists of repeated load creep tests. Flow number evaluates rutting and provides accurate simulation of actual loading.

Flow Time

Flow time is a quick and simple measurement of the resistance of HMA to permanent deformation. It involves static creep tests and provides measurement of permanent deformation for rutting evaluation.
