We specialize in developing and testing value-added materials and products from asphalt. PRI will provide you with effective research and development assistance and technical services to create innovative products aimed at the asphalt and coal-tar industries.
We are fully conversant with ASTM, UL., FM, Metro Dade, Federal, State, AASHTO, and FAA testing protocols for a wide variety of products.

TESTING SERVICES

PRI works with state and foreign agencies in both a research and consulting role to enhance the effectiveness of asphalt binders and pavements. We also serve as an independent third-party laboratory to ensure the quality of bituminous products. Our staff is trained in more than 400 federal, state, ASTM, and AASHTO test methods and our expertise includes UL, FM, Metro Dade, and FAA testing protocols for a wide variety of products.
PRI has been performing the Superpave™ (SHRP) asphalt and binder analysis longer than any other independent laboratory. We maintain state-of-the art equipment and are involved in the Federal Highway Administration expert task group (ETG) responsible for updating and validating the SHRP binder specification and test methods.
We offer a full range of other traditional and specialized test methods for polymer-modified binders, including:

• toughness and tenacity
• force ductility
• Fraass brittle point
• force ratio
• torsional recovery

We can also produce emulsions with our pilot scale emulsion mill and we offer high- and low-shear polymer and modifier blending. In addition, we conduct specialized state qualification tests in our Instron Test frame with environmental chamber.

FLEXIBILITY

Our strong customer orientation assures PRI's customers that they will receive testing data that answers their needs. From custom-designed decks to individually tailored data reports and testing schedules, the emphasis is on providing the customer with the most dependable and cost-effective results possible.

SECURITY

PRI's two-acre outdoor exposure site is fully fenced and protected. Access to the exposure farm is possible only through PRI's 10,000 square foot offices and laboratories, and all decks are coded to protect client confidentiality. Access to exposure decks is strictly controlled, and PRI staff will accompany all site visitors.

ENVIRONMENT

Tampa is located at 28 ° latitude, providing a severe, semi-tropical weathering climate for roofing products. With an average high temperature of 34° (93° F), and annual rainfall of 44", the environment is ideal for determining the long-term performance of roofing products. The Tampa location provides an ideal testing environment, is centrally located in Florida, and has excellent airline service through the top-rated airport in the United States, which provides timely access for on-site monitoring of test decks by corporate personnel.

ACCREDITATION

Our eight-member staff has over 100 years total experience in asphalt products and processing for paving, roofing, and industrial applications, and we are constantly training for and learning new methods and protocols. We take great pride in producing accurate and precise data.
As a fully accredited laboratory we are actively involved in asphalt research, contributing to the advancement of the industry through publications and presentations worldwide. We are accredited by the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) for asphalt analysis and by Metro Dade County for roofing- product analysis and certification.
We also participate in the ongoing proficiency sample round robin testing program sponsored bv the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) in Washington, D.C. Our quality control manual and accreditation files are available for your inspection at any time.
