Our staff of eight has over 100 years of experience in asphalt products and processing for roofing, paving, and industrial applications.
We are a fully accredited laboratory, and remain active in asphalt technology, contributing to the advancement of the art through research and presentations in a world-wide venue.
PRI's objective is to provide cost-effective research and development assistance and technical services to public sector agencies and to companies that produce, evaluate, or supply to the asphalt and coal tar industries.
PRI is a full service asphalt testing laboratory, offering a wide variety of national and international test methods for roofing, industrial, and paving applications. We are fully conversant with ASTM, UL, FM, Metro Dade, Federal, State, AASHTO, and FAA, testing protocols for a wide variety of products. Our individual TESTING SCHEDULES list the specific tests we perform.
PRI will construct an exposure structure to meet our client's every need. Our standard test platforms are small-scale roofs providing 32 square feet of exposure area that can be constructed to be inclined at any angle and exposure. A variety of optional enhancements can be added to increase the information obtained during exposure. These enhancements include: water spray, cyclic ponding water, substrate selection, insulation value and type, and mechanical ventilation of the crawl space.
Monitoring
can include any frequency up to continuous data logging of all relevant data on dedicated
computer lines. Rainwater and controlled water spray runoff can be collected to monitor
water properties, and quantitative granule loss can also be obtained with our unique roof
design. The platform with the deck and roof is removable, and is available for review and
examination. Both residential and commercial roofs can be equipped with a wide variety of
testing and monitoring devices at very reasonable cost. Full documentation and reporting
of collected data is included with each exposure deck, and our emphasis on quality
assurance means that accurate, timely and traceable records of all exposure data will be
maintained and fully available to the client.
PRI is committed to offering the best and most up-to-date technology in all its testing
protocols. We offer a new and innovative approach to outdoor exposure testing that
consists of small roof structures as a test substrate rather than traditional plywood
decks. The use of a structure rather than a deck provides a small-scale, readily
accessible duplication of the actual conditions roofing systems perform in, including
control of plenum temperature and Ventilation. Our innovative system also offers
controlled moisture conditioning for accelerated algal and fungal growth studies. We also
offer traditional accelerated weathering testing with either Xenon Arc or UV-Condensate
Weatherometers, and a complete suite of asphalt and
roofing-component test services.
Our strong customer orientation assures PRI's customers that they will receive testing data that answers their needs. From custom-designed decks to individually tailored data reports and testing schedules, the emphasis is on providing the customer with the most dependable and cost-effective results possible.
PRI's two-acre site is fully fenced and protected. Access to the exposure farm is possible only through PRI's 10,000 square foot offices and laboratories, and all decks are coded to protect client confidentiality. Access to exposure decks is strictly controlled, and PRI staff will accompany all site visitors.
Tampa is located at 28 ° latitude, providing a severe, semi-tropical weathering climate for roofing products. With an average high temperature of 34° (93° F), and annual rainfall of 44", the environment is ideal for determining the long-term performance of roofing products. The Tampa location provides an ideal testing environment, is centrally located in Florida, and has excellent airline service through the top-rated airport in the United States, which provides timely access for on-site monitoring of test decks by corporate personnel.
PRI takes great pride in producing data that is as accurate and precise as possible. PRI is accredited by Metro Dade county for roofing product analysis and certification. We are also accredited by the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) for asphalt analysis. PRI participates in the ongoing proficiency sample round robin testing program sponsored by the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) in Washington, D.C.
